What's working - 498A or MHA? PDF Print E-mail

Better the less said about the misuse (read intended use) of Section 498A IPC, the most draconian law ever formed to infringe upon the civil liberties of individuals and rip-apart the family system of India. This one law wreaks so much havoc on Indian men and their families that it drives them to suicide. Every year close to 58000 husbands commit suicide, every nine minutes a married man ends his life and in the last 12 years 170,000 husbands have ended their life unable to bear the domestic violence from their wives and in-laws and the apathy of the Government and Society towards them.

Added to that, the Government has formulated Weapons of Male Destruction (WMD) like Section 498A which mandates arrest of innocent persons merely on the basis of complaints without any need to investigate into the complaint or corroborate it with evidence. Not only that, even the judiciary uses the Section to abuse men. Often when the complaint is received, husband and his family are not given bail unless they accede to the financially extortionary demands of wife and her parents.

Well today, 24th Feb 2010, Sachin Tendulkar - the living cricket legend made history. He scored the first double century in One Day International (ODI) cricket. No one has ever created such a record in cricketing history so far.

But one day before that, Sachin did something more remarkable. He made a statement that is going to create more problems for men in the society. He promoted "Legal Terrorism".

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/mumbai/Sachin-bats-for-campaign-against-domestic-violence/articleshow/5605016.cms

The title says, "Sachin bats for campaign against Domestic Violence" but in reality it ignores the male victims of domestic violence and men falsely accused of domestic violence by their wives. I would like to bring forth certain facts here.

Sneak A Peek

Men’s Rights – Perspiration or Inspiration?

As I think about the today's theme - it reminds me of Thomas Edison, the man who invented the electric bulb. He had made a famous statement "Things are 99% perspiration, 1% inspiration"

Same applies to men's rights movement as well. It is a matter of constant awareness campaign and hitting at our opponents and proponents of male abuse. Contrary to popular belief, it is 3 times easier to abuse a male than a female because males have no support structure and male abuse is accepted by the society as social service.

Follow Yourself; Not Tradition

As I have repeatedly mentioned in my articles that cultures have deceived men, acting as vultures. Men have been used as the FREE ATM MACHINE, the UNPAID BODYGUARD, the de-facto PROTECTOR and PROVIDER, etc. by cultures and in the process have been reduced to disposable entities. Their abuse is considered a social service now.

And men, the way they are, are in a great way responsible for this. They rarely challenge or question conventions, traditions, histrionics and stereotypes thrust upon them. They do not feel the need to fight for their rights - only a handful of them are doing though scores are getting victimized. They do not demand for their space in the society and accept things as offered to them.

To this effect, today I take the example of Skandagupta - the great emperor of India. His stepmother has him sent to Ujjain so that her son can be made the emperor. He obeys her. But then the Huns attack India under the leadership of Attila the Hun. The army of Skandagupta calls him back as they needed his expertise.
