Alice Eagly's research on the stereotypes that exist for men and women may have brought out something or not is not a certainty but it has certainly led researchers to coin the term WAW - which stands for Women Are Wonderful. Since ages men have been the Protector, the Provider, the Financial Churner and the Responsibility Bearer, and thus it has been absolutely important for them that they not only perform but also venture out to unknown places and get wealth for their families. Also it meant that they need to be dealing with strangers and unknown people. Hence it was not possible for them to be over-expressive. Women, on the other hand, were required to stay back and take care of the families which mean that they usually dealt with known people and could afford to be over-expressive about them. Simply put, the social circle of relevance for men was much larger than women. Combined over centuries the genes of men and women adapted themselves, mutated and formed certain gender traits. These gender traits have led to certain stereotypes. Further since men were in an unknown world, respect did not come to them, they had to win it by their performance whereas for women respect came to them just because they were women. And thus, phrases like, "Respect me because I am a woman" became quite common. Due to the WAW effect, this behavioral pattern and social meme became all the more prominent to the extent that now men have lost all respect irrespective of whether they deserve it or not and this has led to an all time low confidence in men who are committing suicides in large nos. due to this. Because of this WAW effect the society respects a woman's experiences as well, whereas men's experiences are not respected the same way. Due to this men have become disconnected with their experiential domain which has led to them becoming totally numb to feelings to the extent that they do not even realize they are living in abuse themselves, let alone understanding any other man's pain. Women are Wonderful - no doubt about it, but that does not mean, men are not. Men are certainly wonderful in their own ways, it's just that the society needs to realize it and respect its men the way it respects its women. Also men too need to learn to understand their fellow men's problem and empathize with it rather than just condemn the man holding him responsible for the situation. Rarely do we see two men talking to each other about how they reached the office and missed that parking slot and had to struggle to find another suitable one which was an irritating exercise. But women do indulge in such talks. It helps them a lot to not only express themselves better but since they also remain close to their experiential domain they can sense pain better. Men, on the other hand, since they are disconnected with this experiential pain, remain numb and fail to understand another man's pain or be able to respect his struggle.
