Men are Prisoners of their own minds PDF Print E-mail

Ever heard of problems faced by men? Sounds obnoxious and fictitious straight out a crooked minded author's imagination? This is a reality, ask anyone about problems faced by women and the list would never seem to end, but the same question asked for men draws blank faces. The world around us occurs to us the way we truly wish to see it. Our worst fears come true in life for sure.

One of the foremost reasons why the society is oblivious to men's problems is because men fear self-expression and can't see themselves as expressive and when it comes to relationships men find it extremely difficult and confronting to take extreme stands the way women take. This inhibition slowly becomes a way men see the world around them and ultimately cannot express.

It is a story they create in their minds and its creation is attributed to their logical nature and tendency to analyze everything. Men, by nature of design are result oriented and always analyze the result (from their own perspective and experience) before doing anything. While this may be a good practice in business but not for relationships, since relationships dynamics are non-linear. Too much analysis leads to creative paralysis.

Because of their analysis and their quest for logic in everything they do, ultimately men become a victim of, what I call as LOOKING GOOD SYNDROME which leads them to inhibitive of many things and stops them from being creative and strategic at the same time. Their analysis and logic makes men straight thinking, non-manipulative, being non-vague, reasonable and predictable.

All the above qualities are extremely dangerous and make men vulnerable. However, men do not realize this and refuse to take a stand which is vague, unreasonable and justified and thus it is never expected that a man will ever break his image which makes the possibility of abuse of men by the society fairly high.

However, this is a perception and not a reality. The analysis that men do in order to protect their image being a victim of the LOOKING GOOD SYNDROME is nothing but a result of them being a prisoner of their own minds wherein they become imprisoned in their own created stories and ultimately feel frustrated because their analysis leads them to put a lot of checks and balances in their moves due to which their strategic stand is weakened.

The day men are able to break this mental barrier by defeating themselves (which can be extremely uncomfortable for them with the current mental hardwiring), men will be liberated and they will no longer be treated as second class citizens, the way they are being treated now. Moreover this transformation will make men more vocal, fearless, bold and closer to their experiential domain which will ultimately lead to a better deal for them in relationships as well.

Only if men could defeat themselves, break the shackles of their own minds, and stop being Prisoners of their own mind, many issues of men would have been resolved by now like no protection for them in relationships, especially marriage, no protection from sexual harassment, and the other kind of biases that they face in addition to emotional castration from the age of 6.

Sneak A Peek

Men’s Rights – Perspiration or Inspiration?

As I think about the today's theme - it reminds me of Thomas Edison, the man who invented the electric bulb. He had made a famous statement "Things are 99% perspiration, 1% inspiration"

Same applies to men's rights movement as well. It is a matter of constant awareness campaign and hitting at our opponents and proponents of male abuse. Contrary to popular belief, it is 3 times easier to abuse a male than a female because males have no support structure and male abuse is accepted by the society as social service.

Follow Yourself; Not Tradition

As I have repeatedly mentioned in my articles that cultures have deceived men, acting as vultures. Men have been used as the FREE ATM MACHINE, the UNPAID BODYGUARD, the de-facto PROTECTOR and PROVIDER, etc. by cultures and in the process have been reduced to disposable entities. Their abuse is considered a social service now.

And men, the way they are, are in a great way responsible for this. They rarely challenge or question conventions, traditions, histrionics and stereotypes thrust upon them. They do not feel the need to fight for their rights - only a handful of them are doing though scores are getting victimized. They do not demand for their space in the society and accept things as offered to them.

To this effect, today I take the example of Skandagupta - the great emperor of India. His stepmother has him sent to Ujjain so that her son can be made the emperor. He obeys her. But then the Huns attack India under the leadership of Attila the Hun. The army of Skandagupta calls him back as they needed his expertise.
